In 2020, we became a silver member of the IWCA (International Wineries for Climate Action), a collaborative group committed to finding innovative solutions to help mitigate the impact of climate change in the wine industry. This is to be achieved through a long-term strategy of reducing carbon emissions by 50% by 2030, and 100% by 2050.

For more information, click hereFrom the vineyard to our wine’s final destination, we aim to use natural resources efficiently and reduce waste. Specifically our organic, industrial and household waste– the latter by using ecodesign.
Our quality and sustainability is supported by international guidelines and standards, as well as our internal Policies and Declarations.

Our participation involves our largest facility in Molina, with the aim of minimizing solid waste and increasing its value within 24 months. We strive to valorize 100% of our industrial waste by installing clean points and helping every VSPT brand to manage their waste correctly.
Biodiversity: To minimize the impact of agriculture on Chilean biodiversity, we have developed a 7-year Biodiversity Master Plan to conserve and restore native flora and fauna while appreciating the environmental benefits that they bring.
Solar Panels: As a wine group we firmly believe in the importance of using clean energy in our production and agriculture, so we’ve developed two initiatives. Firstly, installing solar panels across our estates to harness 2.6 MW power, enough to power 1,844 homes for a month. Secondly, we’re adding another photovoltaic project to Viña San Pedro, aiming to supply 1.3 MW power for operations at the winery.
Buchahueico: Buchahueico is Viña San Pedro’s most emblematic project. It’s the largest vineyard in Chile to have been planted in collaboration with the Mapuche community. This project saw 10 hectares of premium-quality Pinot Noir vines sewn in the Malleco Valley, Mapuche land in Chile’s Araucanía region. The first harvest took place in 2018 with the first wines reaching the market in March 2019.
Supplier Development Program (PDP): In 2012, VSPT Wine Group launched a pioneering program to support our grape suppliers with sustainability and social responsibility. The program lasted three years and saw seventeen vineyards become certified under Wines of Chile’s Sustainability Code. Today, we continue to work with our suppliers through annual actions.
Measurement and Management of Carbon Footprint (CO2): Since 2010, we have measured and verified our corporate carbon footprint. We record progress and advances while developing initiatives to keep improving this important environmental marker. In the last period, we managed a significant 18.4% reduction in our direct emissions.
Molina Biogas Plant: This project began in 2009 and opened its doors in 2016, introducing the world’s first Biogas Plant to use harvest waste as its only fuel. Its aim is to supply the winery with electric and thermal energy using its own organic waste. The Biogas Plant harnesses 1MWh power and will provide 60% of Viña San Pedro winery’s electricity– or, the equivalent of powering 3,200 homes for a month.
